Following the 2013 earthquakes The Medical Council had to be re-housed in a temporary building across many floors. This gave them the opportunity to think about how they wanted to work and the type of building they wanted to locate to. With a new lease on The Terrace they chose us to design a modern office across two floors, allowing for future growth.
With a higher number of teams and managers, The Medical Council required a greater number of offices than a typical modern open plan fitout. The challenge was to create a space that allowed for future flexibility in team numbers or dynamic, whilst also accommodating multiple offices.
Early in the design process we decided to reward the staff with the best views the floor plate affords. Front of house functions, including a large boardroom, are located to the areas of the floor with limited or no views. We distributed offices throughout the floors, generally backing onto the central core. This allows staff as well as managers maximum exposure to the views and natural daylight.
Our design solution incorporates feature walls and bursts of colour mixed with frosted glazed partitions to break down the potential heaviness of a highly partitioned office. Strong use of colour and detailing uplifts the space and provides a high level of interest and life to the fitout.
The Medical Council now has a bright and vibrant fitout across two floors, which maximises the harbour views and provides space for the company to grow.
